Web site offers information about what systematic review are and how to conduct them. Some regard systematic reviews as the highest level of evidence in medical research. Others rank well done Level I trials higher than systematic reviews of Level II trials

This is an EXCELLENT resource site!! The BCOHTA has been contracted to perform evidence-based systematic overviews of the effectiveness and value of a broad range of 'technologies'. The overviews undertaken range from the role of acupuncture in drug withdrawal to the role bone mineral density testing. Final results of the appraisals are presented on-line in a format that can be critically appraised.

New Zealand Guidelines Group Edit

A very comprehensive web site with access to tools to aid the development of guidelines and a collection of guidelines that can be critically appraised.

IMVent Guidelines Resource	Edit
An excellent collection of guidelines from a Collective Task Force Facilitated by the American College of Chest Physicians, the American Association for Respiratory Care, and the American College of Critical Care Medicine. Links to the original publications allow the reader to critically appraise these guidelines.

The Guideline Clearing House	Edit
A very useful site that allows you to perform searches for published guidelines. Unfortunately not all of the guidelines in this site are truly evidence-based, not all have been peer reviewed and very few have been evaluated in formal studies. Caveat emptor!!!

British Columbia Council on Clinical Practice Guidelines	Edit
Interesting site but unfortunately the CPGs presented on the site are not structured using an Evidence-based format so it is impossible to appropriately critically appraise their content to determine validity.

McMaster University Evidence-based Practice Centre	Edit
This intiative is sponsored by the Agency for Health Care Policy Research. The page provides an excellent overview of this important initiative. Unfortunately results are not yet persented on-line.

Intensive Care Monitor

A current awareness journal for the busy intensivist. It consists of specially written extended abstracts of papers, graded by evidence level, covering RCTs across the disciplines, all impacting on critical care. Each abstract is accompanied by an expert comment from a leading international specialist. (NB- As of my last check, ICM was not entirely 'evidence-based' because although it does provide 'expert comment' on each RCT, it does not formally systematically appraise the internal validity of each paper reviewed. i.e. ICM does not present the results of a critical appraisal of each paper using the JAMA Series Users' Guides - Gord)

The site has gone live and the generic password has been removed. NOTE: If you are having problems accessing the secure site with Microsoft Internet Explorer, select Tools\| Internet Options\| Advanced, scroll down to the Security section and select Check for Server Certificate revocation. Restart Explorer (exit the program and then re-enter). The site should now work.

Subgroup analysis simulator	Edit
Every time you do a subgroup ananlysis, you increase your chance of a false positive result. Don't believe me? Goto this page and role a twenty sided dice 10 times. If the p-value we accept as being 'real' is <0.05, then every time this d20 lands with a 20 up, it represents a false positive result from your trial!!
